With our partner Iqony, a German energy provider, we conduct a feasibility study to explore the operation of fossil-fired power plants with thermal energy storages.

The name of the project is “FlexKWK” which stands for flexible combined heat and power plants. With Steinmüller Engineering GmbH and the Universität Duisburg-Essen we look into repurposing fossil-fired power assets.

The goal of the study is to optimize the operation of combined heat and power plants regarding fuel and carbon dioxide savings as well as economics with green heat from the Kraftblock storage. This project is grant-aided by the state North Rhine-Westphalia (funding code: EFO/0184A-C).
